The first of a new campaign to encourage the use of Viagra over the counter is to help people who have erectile dysfunction. The campaign, called “Vicograf,” focuses on using a Viagra pill in the UK over the counter.
Viagra is the drug used to treat erectile dysfunction in men. A man can take the drug at any time of day, but the effects of Viagra can last up to three days. If it is taken at night, it is not known if Viagra works or not.
“The first of a series of campaign will be to encourage men who have erectile dysfunction to stop taking Viagra and to seek help from a GP to see if the drug can help,” says Dr Mark D. Lott, a specialist urologist in San Francisco and one of the campaign’s co-authors. “A doctor can offer advice to men who do not have erectile dysfunction.”
Lott says that some men may have erectile dysfunction, and so are not using Viagra. However, if a man takes Viagra more than once, he may not use it as often.
“There is no way of knowing if Viagra works or not, because the drug is only available as an over the counter medication,” says Lott. “It is also important to note that it should be used responsibly, and that any man who has a history of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, or high blood pressure will be monitored closely.”
Viagra is not for everyone. Men with a history of heart problems, diabetes, or high blood pressure should use it. Lott says that Viagra is only available if a man is sexually active.
“Viagra is only available as an over the counter medication,” he says. “It is not for everyone, and the drug can be dangerous. The drug can cause side effects in some men and they are not covered by insurance.”
If you have erectile dysfunction and have not taken Viagra before, ask your doctor or pharmacist to give you a copy of the patient information leaflet that comes with your prescription. If you have questions about Viagra and how to get help, talk to your GP or pharmacist.

This campaign aims to improve awareness of erectile dysfunction and help men find an effective solution for their condition, and to encourage men who have the condition to seek medical help.
